Meet talk2bud: dictation with a ghost behind it

A voice-to-text app for Mac where holding one key turns speech into clean writing — and a small ghost named Bud does the listening.

Your Mac has been able to hear you for years. It just never really listened.

talk2bud is a voice-to-text app for macOS with a small ghost named Bud living in your menu bar. Hold one key, say what you mean, release — your words land in whatever app you're typing in, already cleaned up. That's the whole trick, and it changes more than it sounds like it would.

Dictation that keeps up with you

Most dictation tools make you choose between speed and polish. talk2bud gives you both modes and lets you pick per moment:

  • Verbatim — your words, exactly as you said them, the instant you release the key.
  • Enhanced — Bud tidies as you go: filler words gone, misheard words repaired from context, lists formatted as lists. The sentence that introduces a list stays put — your meaning is never trimmed for tidiness.

Under the hood, talk2bud keeps a warm connection open so there's nothing to spin up when you press the key. You talk, it types.

Calls, remembered

Start a call and Bud quietly takes the other seat: a live transcript, notes that write themselves, and a summary when you hang up. Ask questions about any conversation afterward — "what did we agree on pricing?" — and get answers grounded in what was actually said.

Your words live in your account

Everything you dictate and record syncs to your talk2bud account. New Mac, lost Mac, coffee accident — sign in and your library is there. Audio never lingers: recordings are transcribed, then the audio is deleted within three days. The words are yours; the sound of your voice isn't inventory.

Try it with everything unlocked

The first 10 days are on the Master plan — unlimited hours, every feature. Download it, hold the key, and say something.
